Midsummer Fair Archeon 2025
The entire Archeon museum park is dedicated to the Midsummer Fair! On 21 and 22 June, Archeon Museum Park in Alphen aan den Rijn will be transformed into a magical world where history and fantasy come together. This atmospheric festival is dedicated to the solstice, an age-old celebration that has a special meaning in many nature religions.
Midsummer Festival
Midsummer is the festival of the longest day. The sun is at its highest point of the year. This falls on 21 June and is traditionally celebrated in Europe. But it is often called St. John's Day and is only celebrated on 24 June.
Midsummer Night was considered a magical night. Witches held their meetings, hidden treasures were said to be found, and medicinal herbs such as St. John's wort reached their greatest power. People wore flower wreaths, decorated their streets and threw the wreaths over the fire to increase their power. If a loved one caught the wreath, it would strengthen their love.
Large bonfires were a symbol of the sun. People danced around them, led cattle through them to ward off disease, and scattered their ashes over the land for fertility.
During Midsummer, we celebrate life, light, and fertility—an ancient ode to nature.
